The Sisal Hemp and Development Factory was located on the St. James City blocks bounded by Second Avenue, Palm Street, Third Avenue and Coconut Street.  The year this picture was taken was around 1912.

Initially the sisal used for production was imported from Cuba and the Bahamas, and the hemp used was from the Philippines.  It would take a couple of years from the planting of seeds on their St. James property for the plants to ready for harvest.
